This Studio 10 update available for download is a BETA version. Beta software is defined as software that has not been tested thoroughly and it not ready for RELEASE status.

You must first own a released version of Studio 10.x, or when installing on Vista, Studio 10.6 via an install DVD or patch to use this Update. The size of this BETA Update is 119 MB. This BETA expires on August 1st, 2007.

What’s in the Studio Vista BETA

This BETA adds Microsoft Vista OS compatibility to all release versions of Studio 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7 including Studio QuickStart, Studio Plus and Studio MediaSuite. (This is a specification only - improvements may not operate as intended). It may also be installed on Windows XP systems as this provides valuable comparison data.

  • “Initialization Failed” message when attempting installation now addressed

Installation with Windows XP

 Install Process for Windows XP systems from Studio 10.x

  • Make sure you have a version of Studio 10.x already present on your system
  • Install the Studio 10.8 update
  • You may now launch Studio within XP

Installation with Windows Vista

Install Process for clean Vista systems from Studio 10.6 discs

  • Insert your Studio install disc and select the folder on the disc entitled “Studio Vista Installer”. In that folder double-click the “Setup.exe” file to begin installation.
  • Select a Custom installation so that you can elect to NOT install Pinnacle Media Manager. This application is not supported in Vista.
  • Once the Studio install process is complete, install the Studio 10.8 update.
  • You may now launch Studio within Vista

Install Process for clean Vista systems from Studio 10.6 discs on AMD Socket A systems

  • Insert your Studio install disc and select the folder on the disc entitled “Studio Vista Installer”. In that folder double-click the “Setup.exe” file to begin installation.
  • Accept the early warnings from Vista
  • Select a Custom installation so that you can elect to NOT install Pinnacle Media Manager. This application is not supported in Vista.
  • After answering the dialog which asks, “Do you want a Shortcut to Studio created on your desktop?” the installation will pause and read, "Please wait, building effects database."

1.       At this point check the Windows taskbar. A "Microsoft Windows" dialog will be open behind your current install window.

2.       Select this “Microsoft Windows” dialog so that you see the message, "Studio program file has stopped working"

3.       Accept the error message by clicking the “Close Program” button and continue the 10.6 installation, accepting the additional error messages.

  • Restart your system when requested
  • Install the StudioPatch_10.8.0.4627_light.exe
  • Once the patch install is complete, Studio will then be ready to be launched.

Install Process for clean Vista systems from Studio 10.5 discs

  • Insert your Studio install disc and begin installation on your clean Vista system. You will see error messages, however continue with the installation.
  • Select a Custom installation so that you can elect to NOT install Pinnacle Media Manager. This application is not supported in Vista.
  • Once the Studio installation is complete, download and install the Studio 10.8 update.
  • You may now launch Studio within Vista

Install Process for an upgraded OS to Vista from Studio install discs OLDER than Studio 10.5

  • The process for installing Studio on Vista from discs older than 10.5 has three major steps and requires that the OS be upgraded from XP to Vista
  • When still in XP, install Studio 10.0 or 10.1 installation disc
  • While still in XP, download the Studio 10.7 update from the Pinnacle Support website here.
  • After the Studio 10.7 installation, upgrade the OS to Vista
  • After the Vista OS installation is complete, install the Studio 10.8 update.
  • You may now launch Studio within Vista
